WHERE C.C.M. CAME FROM...

Cooperative Community Ministry was founded in 1992. Some pastors and lay people from the Thomasville area saw a need for local churches and agencies to work together, rather than separately, in providing crisis assistance to people in need

Needs had often exceeded what one church or agency could meet, so that persons in need had to go from place to place seeking assistance. Those with the greatest need often could not get enough help to survive a crisis and become self- sufficient. Helping agencies often duplicated each other’s efforts in interviewing clients and responding to needs.

A major study of human needs in Davidson County, sponsored by the United Way and Davidson County Community College, showed that many people in Davidson County are “living on the edge” - with just enough income to disqualify them for some government programs, but not enough to get them through a crisis. Many people need one-time assistance and guidance to become self-sufficient.

Cooperative Community Ministry was established as a coordinated way to help people in crisis. It is a non-profit corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors representing the Thomasville community.

Cooperative Community Ministry is NOT “charity”... it is people helping people in the spirit of compassion.
